What it's all about

“In the Forest” is an experimental/poetic documentary that explores human connections with the Oakville Forest as a home away from home.

The Oakville forest is a significant part of our local community. We want to discover how the forest is unique to the community and through personal testimonials of 4 residents, explore the theme that home can be found anywhere.

Why Green Space is so Important

"In urban environments, the gap in life expectancy is staggering. People on the lowest incomes living in cities are expected to live 10 years less than those on the highest incomes. This is due in part to the green spaces available to the richest people, who often live in open, leafy areas, while the poorest are often left living in overcrowded, heavily concreted areas."

Callum Mair, National History Museum

"Green spaces in and around cities, collectively known as urban forests, can mitigate regional and local flooding from storms, reduce water scarcity, improve air and water quality, regulate temperature, and aid soil nutrient cycling, all while sequestering carbon."

Kimberly M. S. Cartier, EOS

"Descriptive epidemiological research has shown a positive relationship between the amount of green space in the living environment and physical and mental health and longevity."

Peter P. Groenewegen, Vitamin G: effects of green space on health, well-being, and social safety
